The VP, Merchandising will establish and execute overarching merchandise strategies for assigned Business Unit, ensuring that merchandise assortment strategies maximize sales and margins. Develop channel specific plans for products to appear in the right location, at the right time, and in the right quantities.

Accountabilities

  • Define and develop the formal merchandising strategy and how it relates to the product requirements for the Business Unit, which meet consumer and channel requirements and support the delivery of the Clarks business strategy, driving profitable growth in sales and margin, through effective use of consumer and market insight.
  • Ensure the timely input of effective product requirements to the global product teams for each gender to influence the development of product ranges and retail price architecture which meets the needs of the Business Unit’s target consumers by region or channel.
  • In collaboration with Inventory Management, manage annual seasonal range planning activities for all channels within the BU.
  • Determine range pricing and margins for the region in collaboration with Merchandise Planning and the global pricing architecture Optimize lineage within the range- meeting both the stated group brand position and maximizing regional trading performance that enable required margin objectives to be met
  • Develop effective seasonal trading plans by channel for the BU and manage in season trading activity with the support of the region marketing and merchandise planning teams Integrate regional trading activity with global brand and product strategies and plans
  • Ensure appropriate level of analytics are created, reviewed and reported that inform decision making around seasonal assortment planning, product requirements and consumer needs within all channels
  • Review processes and practices continually within function- sharing best practice with other regions/ functions and applying learning to generate improvement
  • Lead, motivate and develop a high calibre, high performance team -setting objectives, appraising performance, planning future succession and coaching of the team in line with Clarks’ performance management processes
  • Ensure adherence to defined standards, business policies, finance policies and authorization levels

Skills and Experience

  • BA or equivalent degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred 15+ years of successful footwear buying and / or merchandising experience and 7+ years management experience
  • Experience in the development and implementation of product strategy
  • Extensive experience as a footwear buyer and /or merchandising & supply chain experience or growing a footwear, apparel or accessories business
  • Experience building a brand, inclusive of having a strong understanding of consumer and product
  • Comprehensive understanding of the US, Canada and Latin American markets and dynamics of a multi-channel business operations Strong stakeholder management skills, influencing and managing complex relationships
  • Ability to analyze situations and make difficult informed decisions A proven track record in the management of significant business change
  • Understanding of different business operating models – Wholesale, Retail, Franchise, e-Commerce
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • Knowledge of analytics and systems to support appropriate planning of product requirements, Sales cycle management and processes
  • Understanding of consumer and product segmentation
  • Practical understanding of financial, range, space and demand planning processes
  • Practical understanding of trading and marketing planning processes
  • Project management skills Strong Microsoft Office Skills including advanced Excel Skills
