This Manager, Retail Store Allocations is responsible for driving revenue and profit growth through creative and innovative execution of inventory management strategies in the retail stores. The Allocation Manager is directly responsible for the development of store plans and allocation strategies (initial distribution and fashion and basics replenishment) that support and relate to business priorities and underlying financial and/or merchandising strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop store plans and an allocation strategy for the management of store inventory that support overall category goals.
  • Collaborate with Merchandise Planning team to ensure that store plans and allocation strategy effectively support the seasonal category strategic goals.
  • Ensure that new stores have proper merchandise assortment, initial inventory stock-level and adequate fill-back to support sales.
  • Provide thought leadership for size replenishment, auto allocation and methods in order to optimize the placement of store-level inventory.
  • Manage in-season review and support inventory management activities.  This includes reviewing business results, opportunities, and liabilities to create recommendations and action plans.
  • Hire, train, coach, motivate, and develop a team of three store planners.  Develop their capability and engagement in alloation activities and knowledge.
  • Effectively research, analyze, make decisions, take action, and communicate regarding field requests related to merchandise.
  • Travel to retail stores and markets within the US to build relationships with field, understand needs of specific markets, identify product trends and opportunities.
  • Analyze business on a weekly basis and present findings to senior retail management at Weekly Business Review meetings.
  • Update standard management reports and creating ad hoc analysis as required.

Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent degree desired
  • 3-5 years of Retail Allocation or Merchandise Planning experience
  • 1 year of supervisory experience or comparable experience in a team leader or project management capacity where leading and training were part of the responsibilities
  • Planning and or allocation experience with a softlines, mall based, multi-location specialty retail chain
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of retail inventory and financial measures (sell-through, weeks of supply, inventory turn, markdowns, open to buy, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of allocation strategy and working knowledge of allocation/replenishment systems
  • Strong computer skills including; advanced Microsoft Excel, Planning software (MID, JDA, etc.), allocation/assortment planning/replenishment tools
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment with strong communication skills to keep all key stakeholders up to date on activities and events
  • Practical understanding of financial, range, space and demand planning processes
