Clarks is seeking a hard-working individual to fill a Manager-level position in the Finance organization to oversee the financial planning and analysis for our E-Commerce business. This manager would join the team responsible for analyzing and reporting the results of our brick-and-mortar Retail and E-Commerce channels.

Clarks is a UK based footwear company who prides itself on providing high quality, comfortable shoes. The US based operations for Clarks approaches its customers from three distinct channels: wholesale to resellers, physical brick-and-mortar stores, and the web. Clarks launched its own website in 2011 and has been investing heavily in growing its E-Commerce business with plans for it to become an even more significant part of the business going forward.

While the role sits within the Finance team it requires close collaboration with the E-Commerce group at Clarks to understand the short and long term strategies to develop financial projections. The manager is responsible for having a deep understanding of the key financial metrics, analyzing results, and offering recommendations on strategic direction. Strong communication skills are critical and the ability to provide thoughtful commentary in a succinct and actionable way will lead to success. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable challenging the status quo and be agile in their ability to react to a rapidly changing environment.

Strong analytical skill are necessary and the ability to fluently use Excel and other tools to perform tasks is expected. Due to the nature of the role, the ability to arrive at the office early (between 6am and 7am) is required to run reports and prepare analyses to provide to stakeholders early enough to facilitate daily decision making. There is not an expectation that the individual would work more than a 40-hour work week unless workload and team priorities necessitate it.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or related field
  • Strong computer skills with fluency in advanced Excel techniques and ability to create impactful, intuitive charts and graphs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to succinctly convey messaging through written or oral presentations
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial concepts including budgeting, forecasting, ratio analysis, modelling, cash flow analyses, and financial statements
  • Basic understanding of accounting
  • Experience with strategic planning
  • Understanding of E-Commerce business concepts
  • Familiarity with key performance indicators for similar consumer product companies 
  • Commercial knowledge and understanding of different channels of distribution (wholesale, brick-and-mortar and franchise)

Technical Skills:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of SAP and related products preferred
  • Extensive skills preparing and understanding complex spreadsheet models and databases
  • Analyze, develop, and interpret financial data
  • Model an investment appraisal
  • Adapt to new software packages

Successful Experience:

  • 5-8 years of financial analysis, reporting and planning experience required
  • Experience in a consumer products industry; footwear preferred
  • Experience demonstrating how to add value to the business through decision making
  • Demonstrated experience influencing to an SVP level; overcoming and managing multiple conflicts / dependencies
  • Experience understanding the impact of US retail and E-Commerce trends on Clarks’ plans and growth
  • Experience in investment analysis
  • Experience in the management of highly detailed budgets and forecasts
  • Proven track record of project management and delivery to timeline
  • Experience managing risks and issues and ensuring they are appropriately mitigated
